France's national program for at-risk researchers AND artists — co-funds a salary at a French host institution. The strongest structural match on this page: it has BOTH a researcher strand (a literature department can host the thesis work) and an artist strand (a culture structure can host the film/performance work). The host institution files the application — the real task is landing the host.

€5,000–€15,000 (découverte/création) · €30,000 (année sabbatique). Francophone authors are eligible "quels que soient leur nationalité et leur lieu de résidence." €7,500–€10,000 paid directly to the author (a "parcours d'auteur" tier pays €20,000). France residence is an explicit qualifying route — passport irrelevant. Highly selective, but author-direct: no producer needed.

Per-project grants from a €280,000 pot per round. Residence-based (France = EU); documentaries explicitly qualify. A cross-border squats/evictions/housing-speculation investigation is a textbook pitch — it needs one teammate based in another country.

€85/day + €400–800 travel + top-ups, trips of 7–60 days. The criterion is LEGAL RESIDENCE in a Creative Europe country, not passport. Funds cross-border performing, research trips, or archive work with a named partner.

£120,000 main award + £25,000 runner-up — the biggest director-led pot anywhere for an emerging documentary director. Worldwide, free entry; the film pitched must be the director's FIRST 50+ minute documentary (a previous doc that already ran 50'+ would rule it out — check runtimes).

€2,400/month for 2–10 months — salary-like support for a French-language writing project. Needs 1 French-published book (or 3 journal texts) + a partner host structure in Île-de-France; the required public-engagement side suits a comfortable speaker. (Living in a different region? Nearly every French region runs a sibling program.)

€2,300+ gross/month, 3-year salaried contract — the single biggest prize on this page: a full salary for the squats/communes thesis at a French university (EHESS, Paris 1, Paris 8…). Open to all nationalities.

Up to €10,000 (8/year, plus one €15k×3yr jury prize). Explicitly for "French and foreign" doctoral candidates researching the city — squats/communes is squarely on theme.

Up to £10,000, radical geography; students and activists eligible, no PhD needed. They rarely fund solo individuals — a small collective around the squats work strengthens the bid.

€5,000, no fee, French-language poems, no publisher needed — foreign nationals residing in France are expressly eligible. Age 18–30 is the only gate. The general Vocation bourse (same window, same rules) rewards a demonstrated vocation instead — the filmmaker/writer trajectory fits there.

€10,000, two laureates/year — feminism, gender, LGBTQIA+ rights research. Paris research prizes typically go by residence/enrollment, not passport; the fine print lives in the annual règlement.

THE French institutional fund built precisely for solo humor shows (création / diffusion / découverte). A feminist trilingual set anchored in French qualifies on genre and language; read the règlement when the 2027 window posts.

International social-issue auteur documentaries are its center of gravity; features 52'+, budget under $1.2M, no fee. Next call announced early 2027.
